How To Apply for Parents Or Grandparents Sponsorship

The new application processing system is comparable to the Express Entry program Canada in functionality. Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want to sponsor parents or grandparents in Canada must first fill out an online form to show their interest in applying for Sponsorship. The interest form is only available at the start of every year and for a limited time. It requires personal information from qualified sponsors and applicants, such as name, address, and date of birth. Interested sponsors will receive a confirmation number upon submission of information. The government then asks a select group of potential sponsors to submit a complete application. Only candidates selected for the Parent and Grandparents sponsorship category will be encouraged to apply. Potential sponsors have 60 days to submit their complete application from the invitation date.
Parents or grandparents who are connected to the sponsor by blood or adoption can apply for permanent residence as a family class member. In addition, parents or spouses of grandparents not related by blood or birth (for example, introduced after divorce) are also eligible for Sponsorship. Finally, if there are
children under the care of parents or grandparents, they may be included in the application. Children under 22 who do not have a Canada spousal sponsorship or common-law partner are considered ‘dependent’. Children over the age of 22 can still be considered dependent if they are financially dependent on their parents due to a medical or mental condition and depend on their parents for financial support before 22.
